The science fiction writer, Robert Heinlein, wrote “A human being should be       able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog…write a sonnet.           Specialization is for insects.”

This explains my passion for both writing and photography. I’m interested in everything. Why cows have horns. Why certain wildflowers only bloom once every few years. The way someone must feel who has spent their entire life on an island.

What attracts me most about photography is the way the world becomes a canvas and the camera the instrument that makes the magic happen. I look for those ordinary moments when a person is caught off guard–in thought, in laughter, at work or play–and the way that instant can transcend the subject, and by extension, the viewer into a more metaphorical interpretation of daily life.

The photographs are really companion pieces to the writing. It’s hard for me to separate the two, although sometimes the photographs are essays in pictures and often I write without accompanying photos.

We are all wanderers on this earth. Our hearts full of wonder, and our souls deep with dreams.
